Crochet Braids

Well I was back at it again. Trying another hairstyle to see if I could make it work. It wasn't what I would call complicated but it was a challenge to get it right. I decided to take a leap of faith and try crochet braids. Oh boy!

The first time was okay until I had a bit of an incident that creeped me out like crazy. I was determined though so I tried again. Using Gogocurls by Freetress, I took the plunge and got it done. Several things  I learned in the process, one do not flood your hair with a lot of the hair for the packages. It added too much volume. The second thing was I just cannot try and do braid patterns because it doesn't work for me. I have to stick to the K.I.S.S. method when it comes to doing my hair.
The third thing is I gave it a try so that makes it well worth anything I learned in the process.

Now would I do it again as a protective style yes I most definitely would. Keep working at it eventually you will find something that will work well for your hair and you.

Finally Did it

Well I decided to try the Senegalse Twist again and this time I managed to finish my hair. It didn't turn out bad but there are somethings I don't like about doing them myself. One, I have a few that keep unraveling which is driving me crazy. Now I did my best with making the hair as uneven as possible before putting them in but I still have unraveling hair. I know this style will not last long because of that. Two, I felt like I was missing something in the process. They are not as tight as I would like them. I don't want my hair so tight that I am pulling my roots but I would like them to feel stable.

I am not sure that I will try the style again. Now I did find out how to do crochet braids. I think I will try that as my next style. I need something that is low maintenance because of the kids and trying to get other things done. I also know that my hair won't take hair dye and I am okay with that so I need style in which I can change the color up a bit. I like giving my skin tone a bit of flair with hair color.

Here are a couple of pictures. I am not one for selfies but I think it is time to stop hiding. LOL

On and Off Kind of Week

This week has been a bit crazy for me. I am trying to focus on getting back to being healthy but it seems like there is always something coming up. I still managed to walk and today I am drinking a smoothie. Now the next step is wash day.

I am getting a bit frustrated with doing my hair and my daughter's hair. Right now I am looking for ways to do them in braids and I feel pretty bad about not finishing my Sengalese Twist. I have learned how to do Havana Twists and I think I may do those in the near future.

One of the reasons I was looking at those types of twist was because they are larger and I could potentially do them in one day instead of several days. I do need to find a natural hair specialist because I need my hair evened out. Doing things sometimes is difficult especially when you are on a tight budget. I know that I want growth and I have to do the things to make it happen.

Getting it together

I feel so bad. I never managed to finish my sengalese twists. One consolation though is I did get back on track with trying to be healthy. A healthy me means healthier hair. It is work doing my hair and there are times when I want to throw in the towel but then what kind of image am portraying to my daughter. So I must keep trucking along to make it work.

I do know that I want a braids or something for a little while just so that I can do a few things without having to think about how I will do my hair for the day. I will say that being naturally me is more challenging. I never would have imagined doing so much to keep everything about me up to par. I know that I couldn't just sit back and let nature take it's course but it is work especially for a single mom.

Can it be done. Yes I know it can because there are so many out there that have done it before me. It is easy? No but then as the saying goes nothing in life is ever easy. If it was easy the benefits wouldn't mean as much.

Well I am going to big my biggest cheerleader and say that I am going to keep working at it to find what works best for me for both my hair and my body.

Senegalse Twists

I decided to try and braid my hair in Senegalse Twists. It has been a learning experience to say the least. I must say though the one video I watched that helped me was by Breanna Rutter. I am still working on finishing them but they look pretty good for my first time. I will post a picture when I finish.

The next thing I need to do is mix up a moisturizing spray. I found a recipe on Pinterest that I think I will use.

The ingredients are as follows:
      Water
      Aloe vera juice
Nourishing oil (like castor and coconut)
      Leave-in Condition
      Essentials oils (tea tree, peppermint)

I am going to try this and see how it helps to keep my hair moisturized while in braids.

Here is a link to Breanna's video: http://youtu.be/ixIJr8AB5vg. It helped me. Until next time.

I've been bad

I have been really bad over this winter with taking care of my hair. I need to trim my ends because my hair doesn't have slip when I wash it and when I am doing what needs to be done it has knots at the ends. Sigh. Trying to do things the right way have been really tough but I know it needs to be done so that my hair will be healthy and have growth potential.

I am going to make it work one way or another.

Reddish Color

I finished my hair. The isn't as bright as I would like it but I know that is because my hair is really dark. It is a nice shade of red though. I did larger twist and curled the ends so when I take it my hair should have a combination look to it.
I just need to make sure I add moisture to it. I have to get back on the road to caring for my hair the right way.
